Y&r Mookey Convicted Of Felony for Having "Prop" Guns In Music Video; Facing 30 Years

Jacksonville rapper Y&R Mookey used a gun in a 2018 music video.

His lawyers claim it was a prop gun.  However, the state convinced a jury it was real and they convicted him of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The gun in question was a modified AK-47 style weapon

"Here he was absolutely confident that this was a real firearm that meets the definition of Florida statues and it's because not only the quality of the video, it's because of this specific time of firearms," said Leah Owens, Asst. State Attorney.

Mookey's lawyer's pushed back but to no avail.

"He said 100% it was a real firearm but he was unable to tell us where the serial number of the firing pin was. My client's just a young kid who is trying to pull himself up," said Kevin Raudt, Mookey's attorney.

Mookey's arrest was part of ‘Operation Rap Up’, a 2019 initiative in which the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office and the State Attorney’s office searched YouTube and social media for evidence of Hip Hop crimes.

Mookey, 20, is facing 30 years.
