Heath Ledger's New York apartment was a shrine to the joker after he became 'obsessed with his character'

Heath Ledger turned his flat into a shrine
Heath Ledger's New York apartment was reportedly a SHRINE to The Joker.
The Australian actor, who was found dead in his fourth-floor loft property in Manhattan from an accidental intoxication from prescription drugs, was said to be obsessed with his role in the Batman movie The Dark Knight.
According to New York Post's Page Six column, Heath had filled the apartment with research material, including comic books, clown statues and even bizarre recordings of him practicing his character's voice for the film.

"He was studying up on the origins of clowns and all of the previous Jokers like Jack Nicholson's character and Cesar Romero's, who was the first Joker on TV," a source said.
"He was a perfectionist who clearly had a lot of respect for the character. All of that stuff was very tidy. He cared a lot about it."
According to the report, the 28-year-old actor kept a red-and-blue journal with The Joker emblazoned on the front.

It was filled with comic strips and drawings, along with a picture of Malcolm McDowell portraying Alex DeLarge in A Clockwork Orange.
He also bizarrely scrawled the words 'bye bye' on the back of one of the pages.
His nude body was discovered on his bed by a masseuse who had arrived at his apartment for an appointment on January 22, 2008.
According to a report by the New York City medical examiner's office, his official cause of death was "acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine."
