David Banner Gives Black Women Hope for Marriage with New Song “Marry Me”

20
I know you’ve been hurt
Let me be the one who puts you first
If you wanna get married, you can marry me
Marry me
Women everywhere want to hear these words from a man but many have lost hope, especially black women. Well David Banner is giving black women everywhere hope for marriage with his new song “Marry Me”. Most rappers are degrading women with their lyrics and promoting casual sex over marriage but David Banner wanted to bring back the idea of marriage with this new song. In an interview  with XO Necole, David Banner revealed why he wrote a song catered to black women continuing to believe in marriage.
“You look at most of who so-called people of success cater to—nine times out of 10 it may not be a Black woman at all. And if it is, it’s definitely not ones that look like our great grandmothers. And I said man, if nobody in the world says that they love them and that they respect them and that they want them, it’ll be me.

And lastly, and the most important thing about this song, one of my friends told me, “David Banner, I know you want to save the world, I know you want to help Black people and the revolution and all of that, but in order for you to do any of those things, you have to mend the relationships with our families—with our women.” He told me until I build the family back together, none of this will work. He said in slavery, our families were ripped apart and we never healed them. We always blame it on Black on Black, but before we were ever so-called “set free,” we never mended our relationships with our family and with our women.”
He went on to say that this song is special but it shouldn’t be because there should be several songs like this. He felt he owed us this song after degrading women in earlier days of his rap career. He hopes that people will take a break from bashing rappers for singing songs that degrade women in order promote this song that was meant to uplift women.
This song is beautiful and I will definitely be adding it to my playlist. I hope more rappers follow suit and push the message of marriage and black love.
