Popular Detroit rapper Doughboy Roc of the group Doughboyz Cashout was shot and killed in Detroit on Monday October 9th.
29-year-old Doughboy Roc, whose real name is Rodney Yeargin, was quickly gaining popularity and had a huge following. But even as he got popular, he refused to leave the Detroit he so loved and he showcased the city in most of his songs. Sadly, he was shot and killed while he was inside his car, a white Hyundai, in the city’s west side.
At about 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon Detroit police found a man's body inside a white Hyundai close to an abandoned field at Stoepel Street and Westfield Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. He was reportedly shot multiple times. Authorities found gunshot wounds in Doughboy Roc's right ear and shoulder. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Doughboy Roc has one son who is named after him. The rapper's last post on Instagram is a video of him and his mum skating at a roller skating rink. This is significant because his dad was killed in a car crash 14 years ago as he left a roller skating rink. This is the first time he and his mum came back to a skating rink after his dad was killed.
As soon as news of his death spread, hundreds showed up at the scene. Others took to social media to express shock and leave tributes.
Police are still looking for Rodney's killer(s). So far, no suspect has been identified. According to unconfirmed social media reports, Rodney was in the midst of a "social media beef" with local gangsters.
